TWO WEEKS COLA FREE!!!

I wanted to update everyone. I have stuck to the "no cola" rule that I set a couple of weeks back. I have not had a sip of any soft drink in over 14 days. My aunt Joan in Colorado wanted me to keep her updated, so I thought that I would do it on the blog. Now, if I could just go without looking at buffet signs and saying "I'm there dude!" LOL!

Rodney Atkins

Here's a picture of me with Rodney Atkins. He was the star of our KFDI Listener Appreciation Show on Saturday night. He was a nice guy. We hung out on his bus. He had the Av's game on in the bus. It was the nicest bus I have been on. It was sweet. He had a HUGE HDTV in there and the hockey game looked great on it. It would have looked better if the Av's hadn't have gotten spanked by Detroit.

Press Conference gone bad!

I have been completely swamped at work this week. We had the Kid Rock concert on Friday and it was the KFDI Listener Appreciation Show on Saturday. Friday was a 14 hour day and Saturday was nearly a 16 hour day. We had the Listener Appreciation Show at Koch Arena. We had our lunch break in the media room. we decided to have Simon "the intern" ask Mike (my assistant) and me some questions about the show. I decided to have fun and surprise Mike, and others in the room. The video of the "press conference gone bad" is in the video above. Please watch. :)

Sturdy stage

Here's a picture from me on stage at the KFDI Listener Appreciation Show on Saturday night. We had a packed house at WSU's Charles Koch Arena with Rodney Atkins in concert. The air staff went on stage a few times during the evening. Here's a picture that photographer Dustin Craig shot of me. I look cross-eyed and constipated. I compare it to a photo of Buddy Hackett. LOL!

Av's lose again

The Colorado Avalanche lost Game 2 of the Western Semi-Finals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs 5-1 on Saturday. Things are not looking good in this series for us Avalanche fans. I did watch some of the game from country star Rodney Atkins bus Saturday. That was cool. There will be more on that and the KFDI Listener Appreciation Show later. I am very tired and must get to sleep. GO AV'S!!!

Av's lose Game #1 in Detroit

It was a long night for us Avalanche fans Thursday night. They are playing Detroit in the Western Conference Semi-Finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Av's scored first, but the Wings scored right after that and then they went up 4-1. The Av's scored two more goals, but they couldn't get things tied up. They lost Game #1 in the best-of-seven series 4-3. I think that this series will go 6 or 7 games. I hate the Wings with a passion. They are like the Yankees of hockey in my opinion. I hope that the Av's can bounce back in Game #2. Go Av's!

Paul Davis dead at 60

Singer/songwriter Paul Davis died Tuesday morning. The 60-year old is best known for a musical career that peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His two best known hits included "I Go Crazy," which reached Number 7 on the Billboard Top 100 Charts, and remained in the Top 100 for 40 weeks. His songs "Cool Night," and "'65 Love Affair" also reached the Top 10 in 1981 and 1982, respectively. I am not sure on the cause of death.

I liked Paul Davis a lot when I was a kid. I can remember hearing "Cool Night" on "American Top 40" back in the early 80's on Sunday afternoons on an AM station from Dodge City. I was a geek. I still am! I love that song. RIP Paul.

Box Trick on kids!

It is a very, very busy day at the station. Honestly! It is. I have been swamped all day getting ready for the Kid Rock concert on Friday, KFDI Listener Appreciation Show on Saturday and Disturbed concert on Sunday. I have also been all over the place getting a tent permit for our Radio Lobo Cinco De Mayo event on May 4th. We did have time to pull off the "box prank" one more time, though. We had students from Mulvane Middle School getting a tour of the building. I told Hank to take the box into the conference room and I had my assistant, Jeremy (from Rifle, CO) get in the box to get the kids. Well, he did! It was great. Please watch and enjoy!

Avalanche move on in playoffs!

It was a great Saturday night for us Av's fans. They beat the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in Game 6 of the playoffs. They are moving on in their quest for Lord Stanley's Cup. Here's a pictures of goalie Jose Theodore, who had 34 saves in another stellar effort, celebrating the Avs win.

Burn Baby Burn!

Remember that I mentioned getting a nasty sunburn at Step Up For SIDS? Well, here it is. I have blisters all over my neck. Very nasty! I went to the pharmacy today to ask them what they suggested. The pharmacist said that Aloe Vera is about it and that that need to use sunscreen. I have some, I just forgot to take it and thought that the event would get over sooner than it did. Very stupid on my part and I am paying for it. Please use sunscreen!

A walk in the park

We had a walk in the park (or nature trail) on Saturday afternoon. There's a neat nature trail over by our house and we try to get over there and walk when we have the chance. Here's some video from the walk with a little point of interest.

Step Up For SIDS

It was a busy Saturday. Zach and Austin both helped me with Step Up For SIDS. It was a fundraising event for the SIDS Network of Kansas. I took this video at the event for the KFDI website. The event went great. I got a nasty sunburn, though. It was worth it. I would hate to even think what goes through a parents mind when they lose an innocent child to SIDS.

Pizza and Pasta Dance

Kristi ordered Pizza and Pasta from Pizza Hut on Friday evening. I told the girls that they would have to come up with a dance and perform it if they wanted dinner. Isn't that terrible? So, here it is in the above video. It's Ally, Tiana, Madison, Shay Brown and Destiny. The pizza delivery guy will remember that address on Parkridge with the weirdos for the rest of his life.

Colorado Avalanche win Game #5 Thursday night

Wojtek Wolski and Paul Stastny scored 79 seconds apart in the third period and the Colorado Avalanche beat Minnesota Wild 3-2 to take a three-games-to-two lead in their Western Conference quarterfinal series Thursday night. Game 6 is Saturday night in Denver. GO AV'S!!!

The "Drama Queens"

Above is a video that I shot Friday evening. We have the kids this weekend. Maddie and Ally were in the family room and Zach was playing games. We have an extra kid this weekend. Shay Brown is a girl that Kristi used to watch. She still watches her sister, Adison. Adison is sick and her parents may have to take her in to the hospital, so they asked Kristi to watch her. I decided to sneak downstairs with the video camera to see what Tiana, Destiny and Shay were up to. well, this is what they were doing.

One more "box prank." Fatty in the box!

We had to do the "box prank" at work again today. This time I got my fat frame into the box. The victim this time was Sherry Stavinoha. She's a salesperson for our country stations. We had her come into the room to talk about an "upcoming event." Watch and enjoy. I did! LOL!

Wanna buy the famous Santa Monica Ferris Wheel?

I was up early this morning watching "ABC's World News Now with Jeremy Hubbard" and saw a story about the ferris wheel at Pacific Park in Santa Monica, California. They are getting ready to get a new one. The new one and the one for sale were both made in Wichita at Chance Industries. This one (above photo) has been at Santa Monica Pier for 12 years and has been in tons of movies, TV shows and music videos. You can purchase this ferris wheel on ebay. All you need is the money and and a BIG back yard. I have been on the ferris wheel a couple of times. It was fun and you get a great view of the ocean and mountains on it. You can track the ferris wheel on ebay at the following link: http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Original-Pacific-Wheel-Ferris-Wheel-at-Pacific-Park_W0QQitemZ290222956722QQihZ019QQcategoryZ13878QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Another victim! (Language warning)

Above is video of us pulling the "box" prank on another co-worker. This time it was La Nguyen. She is a salesperson at the station. This is VERY good. Please excuse Rick's use of the "S" word in the video. Check it out!

Messin' around at work!

The General Manager is out of town for meetings and everyone is acting a little goofy. Here's video of us pulling one over on a co-worker. This video is very funny.

Happy Birthday Kory

Today is my brother-in-law Kory's Birthday. I am sure that he has an eventful evening planned with Italian Chili, Pork Verde and after dinner wine with Stacy.

Av's win! In regulation!

The Avalanche beat the Minnesota Wild 5-1 on Tuesday night. It was great! I actually got to sleep before midnight. The first three games in the best-of-seven series went to OT. This game went long, because there were tons of penalties and fights. The series is tied at two games each and they are headed back to St. Paul. GO AV'S!!!

Skate Guards on ice. Not a good idea.

Tiana had her skating lessons at the Wichita Ice Center on Tuesday night. I decided to take the flip video camera to catch her in action. I got an added bonus. Listen closely for the crashing on the ice sound. Then watch as I catch (on video) a girl realizing that you must take off your skate guards before you enter the ice. The video is above. Please click it to watch it.

Again?

I was up till 12:04 this morning watching game 3 of the playoffs between the Av's and the Minnesota Wild. It was the third game in a row that went to OT and the final was 3-2 for the third game in a row. Unfortunately, the Av's have lost the last two games. They play again tonight. I am hoping that the Av's can even up the series and win in regulation! These late nights are killing me. LOL!

Jeremy and Taunia with the kids

Jeremy and Taunia came over to the house tonight. We had dinner at Bernie's Pizza. It's a joint in our neighborhood where we like to eat. We all had some fun on the trampoline and out in the back yard. Here's a picture of Jeremy, Taunia and all the kids right before Jeremy and Taunia left for the evening. They are in town one more day. I hope to be able and see them a little more before they leave. It's been nice having them in town.

Sunday, April 13, 2008

Gonna give it a try.

Jeremy has gone a month without his favorite drink, Diet Coke. I am going to try and quit by doing the same. My favorite is Diet Pepsi. I have cut down a lot in the past few days, but still average 1-3 per day. I am going to drink more water. I bought packets of "True Orange" and "True Lemon" to put in with my water. I am hoping that this will make the water not so bland on a regular basis. I will keep you updated. I am hoping that it's good news. Congrats to Jeremy for hanging in there. I hope that I have the same positive results. I will let you know.

Day 2 of Jeremy in Wichita

It's day two of Jeremy's Kansas trip. He spent most of the day with Kristi and me. We went to the mall. He wanted to buy something KU. He got a hat. I had to sport my KU "National Champs" shirt today. We went over to mom and dad's for a couple of hours. We then went to eat dinner at Felipe's on the east side. I love that place. We had 14 or 15 people at dinner. It was nice and the food was great. Jeremy is going to church with mom and dad tomorrow. I think that we are going to get together in the afternoon. We got tickets to Blue Man Group at the station and I invited Jeremy and Taunia to go to that Sunday night, but I am not sure that they are going to be able to go. I really miss my brother. I wish that he lived closer. It really stinks when your best friend lives almost 1,4000 miles away. I am enjoying every moment that I get with him here in town. I hope that time starts to stall.

Hangin' with the Hubbards!

Here's a picture of Dad, Jeremy and me from Friday night. Jeremy and Taunia are in town for a few days. It's nice to have Jeremy in town. I haven't seen him in nearly a year and I missed my bub!

Overtime Hockey = Heart Condition

I was up late watching the Av's on Friday night. They beat Minnesota in OT on Wednesday. The game went to OT again on Friday. The results weren't as good this time for us Avalanche fans. They got beat 3-2 in OT. The series moves to Denver now. I hope that the Av's can win in regulation and move on. Go Av's!

I like this one! Gotta like Mr. Bean!

I like this look-a-like. Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov (left) is coming off a career-high season in goals (16), assists (42) and points (58).Rowan Atkinson is a British comedian/actor best known for his character Mr. Bean.

Wow! Are they twins?

Since most people are not familiar with the faces of NHL players, here are some notable players to watch for in the playoffs, alongside some more familiar faces from the entertainment industry they resemble......more or less.Avalanche center Joe Sakic has captained his team to two Stanley Cup victories already (1996, 2001), winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in '96 for MVP of the playoffs.Harry Connick, Jr. is a singer and actor. A Louisiana native, he has favored a New Orleans jazz style in his music, as well as supporting the restoration of the city post-Hurricane Katrina.

Staying put. Thank Goodness!

During his days as a point guard at Oklahoma State University, Bill Self began to dream of someday being named head basketball coach at his alma mater. "I will not lie. It's true," Self, Kansas University's fifth-year coach, said Thursday. Self was offered a big chunk of change to leave Kansas and coach Oklahoma State. I am stoked that he is staying. Everyone is Kansas is still on Cloud 9 with the Jayhawks win Monday night! I love it!

Royals win Hope Opener

The Royals won their home opener, 5-2, over the Yankees on Tuesday, improving to 5-2 with five innings from Brian Bannister, who walked four but fanned six.

KANSAS JAYHAWKS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

So patient for 20 years, Kansas had no problem working an extra five minutes to bring a long-awaited championship back to the heartland. Mario Chalmers hit a 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to push the game into overtime, and the Jayhawks grinded it out from there for a 75-68 victory Monday night over Memphis in one of the best title games in recent memory.
It was the first title for Kansas since 1988, when Danny Manning, now an assistant coach for the Jayhawks, led them to an upset of Oklahoma. And the shot earned Chalmers the most outstanding player honor.
It was a wild one in the Hubbard house. I think that I woke Kristi and the kids up when I started cheering after the Kansas win. Kristi was then woke up to the sounds and flashes of different houses in our neighborhood lighting fireworks. I have almost lost my voice now from the screaming, but it's worth it. I am so excited. I can remember back in 1988 when the Hawks won it last. I was on spring break and took the train from Garden City to Kansas City. I went to Missouri to see my friend Mark Dinwiddie. We watched the game at his house and I took the train back through Lawrence the day after they beat Oklahoma in the National Championship game. I remember being so excited to see the fans in the streets that next morning. I also got excited when my parents bought National Champs shirts for us at Sam's in Wichita. Yeah, I remember a lot of weird stuff.
ROCK CHALK, BABY!!!

It's almost time! Kansas and Memphis play for #1!!!

For the first time since 2003, Kansas University is back at the doorstep of the NCAA Division I men's basketball National Championship. And just like the last time, a young team led by a star freshman stands in the way of the Jayhawks' first title since 1988. The final game of the 2007-08 college basketball season tonight features two No. 1 seeds - KU and Memphis - who will get going at 8:20 p.m. in San Antonio. Memphis enters the game on the heels of a blowout victory against UCLA Saturday night, while KU capped the night of semifinals with an 84-66 triumph over former coach Roy Williams and North Carolina.

We are at the house getting ready for the Kansas and Memphis National Championship game. It was like a holiday in Wichita today. Everywhere you look you see people wearing crimson and blue. It's wonderful. It would be a perfect end of the day to have the Jayhawks win it all. GO KU!!!

Colorado Avalanche getting ready for playoffs

The Colorado Avalanche are headed to the playoffs! Yee haw! They were left out by 1 point last year. They are the #6 Seed in the playoffs this year and will take on the Minnesota Wild starting Wednesday night in St. Paul. I watched the Av's game against the Wild on Sunday afternoon and it was a good one. Colorado won 4-3 in a Shoot Out. I am confident that the Av's can make a move in the playoffs. Go Av's!

An interview with the Kansas Krew

The Kansas Krew!

Here's a picture from Sunday morning. It's our Kansas Krew! I know that crew is spelled with a C, but I had to make it cool looking with the K. I could call them the Kansas Kids, but that would bring my dad to tears. You see, back in the early 80's I decided to write "Kansas Kids" on about every single album of my dads. He cherished his albums and he was not happy at all. So, I decided to call these guys the Kansas Crew. LOL!

Cool new look for Texas.

Licence Plate Geek Alert! Here's the new Texas tag. I like it! Why have I always been such a geek when it comes to license plates? I need to get my fat butt into the garage and put my license plate collection on the walls. One of these days.

How to wake up and motivate!

I woke up this morning and Destiny and Zach had come into the room. They wanted to cuddle with Kristi. So, I decided to make a video of how I combat that. I tickle them and try to get them out of the way. By the way, "Barted" is Destiny's word for passing gas (farted).

Charlton Heston dies

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84. The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said. He declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.

Kansas headed to championship, defeats UNC 84-66

Man! I can't breathe. The Jayhawks are in the National Championship Game! They are playing the Memphis Tigers Monday night! KU was up by 28 and things looked pretty good, but they started to choke. Kristi got an e-mail from her brother asking if I was "crapping my pants" when North Carolina came within 4 points of the Hawks in the 2nd half. They held on and opened things up at the end. I can take me depends off now! LOL! Monday's game should be a pretty good one. Memphis is good, but I think that Kansas can make it a game with them.
My favorite part of the night was seeing Roy Williams lose. It was nice to see mister "I am not going anywhere, I promise" lose to the guy that replaced him. It was very nice. ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK.....KU!!!

Video invitation for Jeremy and Taunia

Above is a video invitation for Jeremy and Taunia when they are in town next week.

Tonight's the night.

I was in Wal-Mart this morning getting medicine and thought I would be creative. Instead of a fancy picture with the Kansas versus North Carolina logo, I give you this. Cheesy, I know. KU you and NC play in the Final Four Semi-Finals tonight in San Antonio. Go Hawks!

Craig the logo geek strikes again! This time the NFL!

OK, everyone that knows me well can clearly see that I am a nerd when it comes to license plates and logos. Well, here's one for you!

The National Football League is launching a makeover of its red, white and blue "NFL Shield" logo that adorns everything from player jerseys to fan T-shirts and hats. The league is creating a leaner, meaner version of the iconic logo that will debut at the NFL draft in April, 2008. The revamped shield will be slightly taller and thinner, with a new football, fewer stars and darker colors, says Lisa Baird, the NFL's senior vice president of marketing. The redesign marks the first changes to the shield since 1980.

•The new shield features eight stars (representing the eight AFC and NFC divisions) vs. 25 on the current logo. Why 25? It's a mystery. After researching the shield's origins, the designers could find no reason for 25 stars, says Jaime Weston, director of brand and creative operations. The shield logo was first used around 1940, two decades after the NFL's founding in 1920.
• The football at the center has been redesigned to resemble the ball atop the Vince Lombardi championship trophy, says Baird. It replaces the old-fashioned pigskin nicknamed the "Hamburger" inside league offices.

OK! That's enough of geeking it for tonight.

When did Glenwood get an ice rink?

I am up late tonight (Friday). I can't sleep. I still don't feel good and I am having trouble breathing. I am so congested. I was getting homesick for Colorado and decided to look at some pictures of Glenwood and the Roaring Fork Valley and stumbled upon this. Glenwood has a community center with an ice rink. Very cool! I can't wait to check it out. I really, really want to find a way to get my family out there this summer. I haven't seen Grandma for a year and a half and I miss all the family out there. I also miss the mountains. It's my goal to try and make it out there before the end of the summer, but I am not sure what is going to happen.

Royals are 3-0! WOW!

Alex Gordon and Mark Teahen each homered and Zack Greinke pitched seven solid innings, as the Royals beat the Tigers, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon.
This is only the second time the Royals have opened the season with a three-game sweep on the road. The first time? Also in Detroit, in 1977 at Tiger Stadium. That Royals club, by the way, went on to win 102 games and the division title.
Can you believe that the Royals are undefeated? What the heck?

Wingnuts fall short in "Best Logo" contest

CNBC called it the Minor League Baseball Logo Contest, but they should have called it a "Miner" contest, as the Southern Illinois Miners bested the Wichita Wingnuts, 55 percent to 45 percent, in the final matchup that ended this Wednesday morning.
There was nothing minor about this contest after all. The Miners beat out 63 other teams in a single elimination tournament for the best logo award, which was determined by the readers of the CNBC blog, who voted more 700,000 times in total. The finale alone yielded more than 165,000 votes, a CNBC.com poll record.

The Miners were given a No. 3 seed to start the tournament. Along the way, they beat the Carolina Mudcats, the West Tennessee DiamondJaxx, the Grand Prairie AirHogs and the Augusta GreenJackets before prevailing over the Wingnuts.

The Wingnuts did pretty well for not even playing a game yet!!!

Under the weather

I have been sick the last couple of days. I have had a fever of 101-102 and feel like crap. I was out of work yesterday and I am not sure about today. I don't want to go in and make anyone else sick. My mom sent me the following email. I think that she is working on her computer lingo.

"Your Dad said you sick I hope you are feeling better. lol" Mom

"lol?" Laughing out loud? She finds it humorous that I am sick? :)

License Plate dork strikes again! Here's my vote!

The state of Kansas is holding online voting for the design of the next personalized license plate. There were over 110 submissions and the state now has the top 5 to vote for. This is Design #3. It's my favorite of the bunch. What's your thoughts? You can see the other 4 and cast your votes at the following link. http://www.ksrevenue.org/apps/vote.aspx.
