Broncos to goodbye to safety John Lynch

The Broncos career of safety John Lynch is over. The 16-year veteran was not on the field for the morning practice on Wednesday and when asked by the media, Head Coach Mike Shanahan replied, "John was excused for personal reasons." But Wednesday afternoon, it became clear that Lynch was done as a member of the Denver Broncos and will be released on Thursday.
During the offseason, Lynch met with Shanahan and the two agreed on a one-year deal with no guarantee of making the team.
As training camp got under way it was clear that Lynch was not as big a part of the team's defensive plan as he had hoped.

He spent more time watching the action on the field than participating in it.
Lynch was told he'd compete for a starting safety job when he took a pay cut this offseason, but with the emergence of Marlon McCree, Lynch didn't play a single snap in the nickel or dime packages during the first week of training camp.
When asked about the news late Wednesday afternoon, cornerback Champ Bailey said, "Part of me wants him here and part of me wants John to be happy, but that's up to John."

MY TAKE:
This is a bummer. I have been a big fan of his, even when he played at Tampa Bay. I have already come to expect that this is not going to be a good year at all for the Broncos. I think that 6 wins will be a stretch. They have had so many changes and a lot of folks are getting old. I hope that the can at least beat the the Chiefs twice. :)

Thanks for rubbing it in!

My dad sent this from his phone this afternoon. They are in Colorado for the week. This is a picture from the top of Wilkerson Pass. It's looking toward South Park and the Buena Vista area. This is one of his favorite spots in Colorado. We used to camp up there when I was younger. It's awesome at night. It's so quiet and you can see stars all over the place. It's a beautiful state and I love it. Have fun dad and mom.

"Golden Girl" passes away

According to TMZ.com, "Golden Girl" Estelle Getty has died at the age of 84, just three days shy of her 85th birthday. She passed away this morning at her L.A. home. Estelle is best known for playing the wise-cracking Sophia Petrillo on"The Golden Girls."

OOPS! Sorry.

Even Elvis was surprised to hear that I forgot to wish a Happy Anniversary! I would like to send a belated Happy Anniversary wish to my Uncle Lamar and Aunt Joan. The anniversary was about 10 days ago. I apologize that I forgot about it. I hope I can remember mine. :)

R.I.P. Maggy Moo

My thoughts go out to Taunia and Jeremy. Maggy Moo passed away over the weekend. She was a wonderful dog and part of the family. She was literally one of Jeremy and Taunia's kids. Taunia put together a neat video tribute to the cute pooch on her Facebook. I always had fun memories of Maggy. I remember I pet her one time (the first day I met her) and she didn't like it where I pet her and she let me know that right away. She was a fun dog. Taunia, Jeremy, Jake and all of us will miss you. rest in Peace.

We lose two, but "K.C." scores!

The Iceassins lost two more games Sunday night. We got beat 15-4 and 8-1. My brother-in-law Kory got on the scorecard with an assist in the first game and fatty finally scored, too! I made a goal in the first game. It was nice to finally score.

Dark Knight sets the record

Batman has sent Spidey packing as king of Hollywood's box-office superheroes. "The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, topping the previous best of $151.1 million for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007 and pacing Hollywood to its biggest weekend ever, according to studio estimates Sunday.
I got a chance to check this movie out over the weekend, and it is awesome! Heath Ledger was great as the joker. I am not going to ruin the movie for you, but I suggest that you check it out if you get the chance. I would like to see it again.

An interesting way to spend summer break

I found this video on you tube awhile back. I remember doing goofy things during the summer when I was a kid, but this tops those stunts by far. Katy Perry's song "I Kissed a Girl" is all over the radio and television now. I like the song. It's very catchy and full of hooks. This video version is pretty funny. Where did the shopping cart come from?

Welcome to the ball park.

It was an interesting evening on Friday. I was scheduled to be the on-field announcer at the Wichita Wingnuts baseball game. That's what I usually do. Well, I got to the stadium on Friday night and it was a different situation. The usual public address announcer was unable to work. I was already on the field preparing for the evening. The teams G.M. tracked me down and asked if I could help out. I said yes. It was interesting. I had a long night. The delay at the stadium is about 1-2 seconds. It's very weird to say something and then hear it a couple of seconds later. I am used to it on the field, but it's very difficult in the press box. I got used to it, but had a few flubs here and there. Above is a picture of me trying to get through the night.

What a way to start the day.

Above is a picture of my car with the radio station in the background. I ran out of gas on the way to work on Thursday. I forgot to fill up on my way in, because I was on the phone with a old classmate of mine and forgot to fill up. He was trying to convince me to go to my 20 year class reunion in Garden City later this month. I was within 50-75 feet of the parking lot. I actually just laughed it off and went into work and told everyone what happened. It was a nice chuckle for everyone. I was able to use a gas can from a station van and put it in the car. I then went and filled up the car and gas can. Oh, about the reunion. I was 170 at the 10 year in 1998 and about 245 now. I am not going.

Getting ready for this one!

"The Dark Knight" opens this week. I have a couple employees that are going to the 12:01 a.m. showing at the Warren Theater. I was debating going with them, but I am getting old and I would get no sleep. Friday is a very busy day. I am going to try and convince Kristi to go and see it. She owes me. We have went to her choice the last couple of times. I am excited to see how good it is. I have heard critics say it is awesome. I loved the last one. I like the dark theme better than the cartoon-like comic book Batman movies in the past. I will let you know if I get to see it. Please let me know if you see it. My e-mail is craighubcap@yahoo.com and I would love to hear your thoughts on the movie.

I better not plan on dying anytime soon.

Yahoo had an article on the "10 US Places to see before you die." There's some interesting places and I have note seen any of them. So, I plan on living a long time, or somehow getting rich and doing a lot of traveling very soon! :) Here's the link for the whole story - http://travel.yahoo.com/p-interests-23247426;_ylc=X3oDMTIyYjhpdnZuBF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEX3MDMjcxOTQ4MQRzZWMDZnAtdG9kYXltb2QEc2xrAzEwYmVmb3JleW91ZGllLTIwMDgtNy0xNg----

Kash goes nuts!

Above is video from CNN of Wichita Winguts manager, Kash Beachamp going off on an umpire in the Nuts game against Sioux Falls this past Wednesday. I was upset. This was the second game of a double-header when this happened. I worked the first game, but didn't work the second. I was already at home when this all started.

Congrats Cousin!

Congrats to my cousin, Tami and her husband Keith. They are proud parents. Kaeden Michael Habig was born on Friday. I spoke with Tami this afternoon on the phone and all is well. She is very excited. I am sure that my Uncle Smitty, Aunt Marcia and my cousin Lauri are on cloud nine. I am excited to see some pictures of the little guy! Congrats Tami and Keith.

B-Day photo

I snagged the past photo from Jeremy's website. I am sure that it's one Jeremy shot without her knowing it. So, Taunia gets a bonus photo for her Birthday. I am sure that she knew this one was being taken. I hope that you have a nice B-day.

Happy Birthday to Taunia!

Sunday is my sister-in-laws Birthday. I would like to be the first to wish her a Happy Birthday. This is a hidden camera shot from when she actually realized that she was related to me. Pretty scary! LOL! Happy "Early Birthday" Taunia!
LATE!

Is Darren the next Steve?

My friend Darren sent this picture to me. Yeah, that's Jerry Springer with Darren. Jerry is there for the Miss Universe Pageant. Darren is there as a photographer. I have no idea what the "Free Iowa" shirt is all about. I will have to find out. I will also have to find out if Darren has applied to be the new Steve (Security Guard) for Jerry.

Former Bush press secretary Tony Snow dies

Tony Snow, a conservative writer and commentator who cheerfully sparred with reporters in the White House briefing room during a stint as President Bush's press secretary, died Saturday of colon cancer. He was 53.
"America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character," President Bush said in a statement from Camp David, where he was spending the weekend. "It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day. He brought wit, grace, and a great love of country to his work."
Snow died at 2 a.m. at Georgetown University Hospital, according to former employer Fox News.
Snow, who served as the first host of the television news program "Fox News Sunday" from 1996 to 2003, would later say that in the Bush administration he was enjoying "the most exciting, intellectually aerobic job I'm ever going to have."
Snow was working for Fox News Channel and Fox News Radio when he replaced Scott McClellan as press secretary in May 2006 during a White House shake-up. Unlike McClellan, who came to define caution and bland delivery from the White House podium, Snow was never shy about playing to the cameras.
With a quick-from-the-lip repartee, broadcaster's good looks and a relentlessly bright outlook — if not always a command of the facts — he became a popular figure around the country to the delight of his White House bosses.
He served just 17 months as press secretary, a tenure interrupted by his second bout with cancer. In 2005 doctors had removed his colon and he began six months of chemotherapy. In March 2007 a cancerous growth was removed from his abdominal area and he spent five weeks recuperating before returning to the White House.
"All of us here at the White House will miss Tony, as will the millions of Americans he inspired with his brave struggle against cancer," Bush said.

Love it!

One of my employees sent this picture to me. It was taken on I-70 at Exit 220 in Lawrence. It's the new exit sign featuring the "2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Champions" and "2008 Orange Bowl Champions" on it! I can't wait till I can see it in person. It will bring on a smile, I am sure. Gotta love them Hawks!

Photos from Vietnam

My friend Darren is in Vietnam for the Miss Universe pageant. He is the photographer for the event. He e-mailed me some photos from Vietnam. This picture is from Sunset Diamond Bay. It was taken right after he finished a shoot with the girls (contestants). The color only lasted about 2 minutes. Very beautiful. I would like to see that someday.

Happy Birthday Kirk!

I would like to wish a Happy Birthday to my cousin, Kirk. He has always been a great person and has that sense of humor the most of my relatives have. I don't get to see him a lot anymore. He lives a few hundred miles away and he hasn't been at the condo at Lake of the Ozarks the last couple of times that I have seen him. One of my funniest stories of Kirk was when I was a little kid. He was dating a girl. I believe that her name was Heidi. My brother and I were staying at Kirks families house in Longmont, Colorado for a few days. Kirk was stuck watching Jeremy and me. He decided to walk us to Dairy Queen with him and his girlfriend. I remember that we would laugh and tease him every time they would hold hands. It was funny at the time, but I am sure it irritated the crap out of him, but he was a good sport about it.
I also remember playing football with him on the football field at Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri. It was very fun. I also remember him taking us to the pool at the campus. He is a great cousin and he means very much to all of his family. Happy Birthday!

Former Republican N.C. Sen. Jesse Helms dies at 86

Former Sen. Jesse Helms, who built a career along the fault lines of racial politics and battled liberals, Communists and the occasional fellow Republican during 30 conservative years in Congress, died on the Fourth of July. He was 86.
"It's just incredible that he would die on July 4, the same day of the Declaration of Independence and the same day that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died, and he certainly is a patriot in the mold of those great men," said former North Carolina GOP Rep. Bill Cobey, the chairman of The Jesse Helms Center at Wingate University.
Helms died at 1:15 a.m, the center said. He died in Raleigh of natural causes, said former chief of staff Jimmy Broughton. "He was very comfortable," Broughton said. Funeral arrangements were pending

How we have spent the 4th of July...so far.

Happy 4th of July! A lot of folks are traveling or hanging out with family. Kristi and I are pretty much home alone this holiday. All the kids are at their other parents, or grandparents houses. We had wanted to make it to the Lake of the Ozarks or to Arkansas, but decided it wasn't a wise decision with gas at 4 bucks a gallon. So, we decided to do some long overdue yard work.
Above are pictures of the front yard. I am kicking myself for not taking before pictures, but here's what we have done so far. We took out all of the weeds and put down some lining and mulch. I also trimmed the heck out of bushes and trees in the front yard. The bottom picture is probably the most important. We found a place for the Broncos stone. :)

Arena update

Here are a couple of pictures of the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita's Old Town district. It's starting to take shape. I will keep you updated a few more times between now and when it opens in 2010!

Greetings from the Sunflower State

I took these pictures Friday night around the Sumner/Cowley county line (south of Wichita). It was a sunflower field. It was awesome. I wanted to share it with you.

Gotta love Photoshop!

I found this picture awhile back on the web and had to share it. The photo is well known. It's Jack Ruby shooting and killing Lee Harvey Oswald. Well, someone decided to have some fun with it and change it from a crime scene to a jam session. I think it's pretty funny. What do you think?

Most album downloads ever! Broke record in 2 weeks!

Coldplay holds at #1 on Billboard's album chart for the second week with Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. But the big news is that, in just two weeks, Viva La Vida has sold more downloads than any album in digital history. The old record was held by John Mayer's Continuum. Viva La Vida sold 66,000 downloads this week, bringing its two-week total to 354,000. Continuum has sold 353,000 downloads since its release in September 2006. The rest of the all-time top five albums with the most paid digital downloads consists of Amy Winehouse's Back To Black (329,000), Daughtry's Daughtry (323,000) and Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds (301,000).
This album is awesome! We got a copy at the station a few weeks ago, so I copied it to my computer. I have always liked Coldplay, unlike my brother. He can't stand them. I recommend giving it a listen. Very good!

NBA moving close to Wichita!

Seattle SuperSonics owner Clay Bennett smiles during a news conference in Oklahoma City, Wednesday, July 2, 2008. The Sonics will move to Oklahoma City for the 2008-09 season as part of a settlement announced Wednesday with the city of Seattle. The agreement ends a contentious relationship that culminated in a recent six-day federal trial over terms of the team's KeyArena lease. The judge was scheduled to rule Wednesday afternoon.
I am very excited about an NBA team coming to the area. I am going to plan on taking the boys down to a game or two next year. I will still be a Nuggets guy, but it will be cool to go a couple of hours down I-35 to see a real NBA game. They will have new colors, logo and name. More details to come!
