HOW 'BOUT THEM COLORADO BUFFALOES???

The Colorado Buffaloes just pulled a major upset! They just beat #3 Oklahoma 27-24! This is a HUGE win for the Buffs. I love it! Especially since they beat the Sooners!

Gotta Love This Picture!!!

Here's a picture that I found this morning. It's the Cubs celebrating their clinching of the National League Central Division on Friday night. I love this picture, because you don't see this happen often as a Cubbie's fan.
I have been a Cubs fan since 1984, when they choked against the Padres. Then they came within 5 outs of a World Series Appearance in 2003. Finally! Another chance for the Cubs. It's been 99 years since that have won a World Series. It's about time!

Huh?

Kissin’ 102.1 to be Rockin’ & Dancing in the Mornings Starting next week, Rockin’ Rick Regan will join Dancing Don Hall for mornings on KZSN, Kissin’ Country 102.1. “The Rockin’ and Dancing morning duo brings an incredible amount of energy, passion for the music, and a love for Wichita together in one show,” said Lyman James, director of operations for Clear Channel Radio/Wichita. The new morning team will begin Monday morning October 1. “Rick & Don will deliver high energy, plenty of fun, community involvement and lots of great country hits.”

Rockin’ Rick will continue to host his afternoon drive show until his replacement is announced. Management anticipates the afternoon line-up to be in place soon. Hall has been a highly-rated fixture in the market for well over 30 years, the last four on the KZSN morning show. “Don is easily one of the biggest names in Wichita media history,” said James, “and we’re fortunate to have him in the Clear Channel family.” Before making the move to KZSN in 2003, Hall was part of the morning team on long-time market leader KKRD. Rockin’ Rick has been the afternoon personality on Kissin’ 102.1 for the past two years, and prior to that was the #1 afternoon personality in the market at KFDI. His experience also includes years at KYQQ and KICT.

Funeral for Wichita T.V. Legend is Today

The longtime KAKE meteorologist passed away on Tuesday after a long bout with illness. Jim's funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Jim is survived by his wife, Marilan, a son and daughter and six grandchildren. Jim was 77.
This funeral is going to be on a Cable channel here in Wichita and also on the web. Jim was a nice guy. When I worked at KKRD, we used to do the "Blarney Breakfast" for St. Patrick's Day at a local restaurant. We did it with KAKE T.V. Jim was always there at the event, since he came from Irish heritage. He was always nice to work with. R.I.P. Jim.

CUBS IN! CUBS IN!

You've heard that the Cubs haven't won it all since 1908. About how they finished last in 2006 and spent $300 million on free agents this offseason. Now hear this: The Cubs are NL Central champions.

The Cubs beat the Reds on Friday, 6-0, and clinched the NL Central title for the first time since 2003, following the Brewers' loss. Carlos Zambrano threw seven shutout innings and was aided by a pair home runs from Alfonso Soriano and Derrek Lee. I AM SO EXCITED!!! Come On Boys! Don't let me down this time.

IT'S A BOY! AGAIN!

Congrats to Stacy! She pounded out a 9 pound, 21 inch baby boy this afternoon in town of Hutchinson, KS. Here's a shot of Stacy when she found out that she was knocked up....again!

Kent's Funeral

It was a pretty busy weekend for me. As a lot of you know, one of my best friends from High School (Kent Hagelgantz) passed away. Kent had a very rare form of lymphoma. He was diagnosed in January and it took his life last week.
The funeral was very emotional. The family asked that I sit up with the pastors during the funeral. They had me get on the mic and talk about Kent and growing up with him. I talked about our trips to tons of sporting events and our famous trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada in the early 90's. I then opened it up for the audience to talk about stories with Kent. It went very well.
I am going to miss him. He was a good guy and loved his family and friends very much. It was very sad to see him like he looked, though. Kent was always a big guy. He was never really chunky, just big. He was 6'6 and weighed about 300 pounds when he was healthy. He weight 140 pounds September 18th when he died. Cancer is a terrible thing.
You will be missed, my friend. Rest in Peace.

Update Your Blog, Bub!

My brother, Jeremy is a hard guy to get a hold of. He's always on the go. I try to call him, but I hardly have any luck reaching him. That's what the old blogger.com is so good for. Well, I went to Jeremy's Blog http://www.bubsbasement.blogspot.com/ and he hasn't updated that in awhile. Bub! What's going on in your world? Congrats on your Chiefs winning their first game of the season. I hope it's their only win.

Another BIG Weekend for KU!!!

The Kansas Jayhawks football team continues to roll! They went to 4-0 over the weekend with a 55-3 win against Florida International. I was in the Lawrence-Topeka area over the weekend for Kent's funeral. I drove over to Lawrence early Saturday morning to walk on the KU campus and see some of the sights around town that I used to love when I lived up there. I went by the stadium and watched them prepare for tailgating and the game. I would love to see them play this year, but don't see if happening. I will probably be headed to Manhattan on 10/13, though. A guy that used to work for me gave me free tickets to the Colorado-KSU game. So, I hope to go to that.
Kansas is off this week, but return on October 6th at K-State. That will be a good one. It's a sell out! Rock Chalk....Jayhawk.....KU!!!

Broncos Lose.

The Broncos lost their first game of the 2007 season on Sunday. The Jaguars beat them 23-14. The Late Game Magic couldn't happen this week. They were dominated pretty much the whole game. They looked like crap. Jay Cutler had a decent game, but threw an interception at the end of the game. They now have to get ready for the Colts at Indy next weekend. So, it's safe to say that the Broncos will probably be 2-2 after that one. That will be a tough one!

Kent Hagelgantz, 1970 - 2007

Kent E. Hagelgantz, 37, of Topeka, lost his battle with cancer at his home September 18, 2007.
He was born June 4, 1970 in Great Bend, Kansas the son of Calvin and Linda Hagelgantz.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday 9/22/2007 at the Wanamaker Seventh–day Adventist Church. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 555 N. Woodland, Suite #113, Wichita, KS 67208. To leave a message for the family online, visit www.PenwellGabel.com.

Kent was one of my best friends from High School. I will miss him dearly. We went to many baseball and hockey games together over the years. We also took a road trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada in the 90's. He would go to Royals games with me when I lived in Lawrence.
Kent was also the person with me on May 21, 1987 when my mother told me that my Grandma Hubbard was killed in a car accident. I will never forget that day.

I am going to be a pallbearer at the funeral on Saturday. It is going to be a tough weekend.

My Grandma's Birthday!

I would like to wish a Happy Birthday to my Grandma Gardner. Grandma, have a wonderful day. I hope to get the family out there to see you soon. I have not been able to see you in 9 months and hope to get out there soon. Take care and enjoy this special day. I love you. Happy Birthday!

Broncos are 2-0!

The Broncos had to go to overtime, but they beat the Raiders 23-20 on Sunday. This is the first time since 2003 that the Broncos have started 2-0. The Chiefs and Raiders are both 0-2. That's good news! Denver is at home again next week to play Jacksonville.

OJ Arrested!

O.J. Simpson was arrested Sunday on charges related to an armed robbery involving sport memorabilia, police said. Simpson was arrested shortly after 11 a.m. and is being brought to a police office, Capt. James Dillon said. Police are still determining charges against Simpson.
Several police officers were seen entering the hotel where Simpson is staying; a security guard said police took Simpson out a side door shortly after.
At least one other person has been arrested and police said earlier Sunday that as many as six people could be arrested in connection with the alleged armed robbery that occurred in a room inside the Palace Station casino-hotel on Thursday.
Simpson, 60, has said he and other people with him were retrieving items that belonged to him. He told police no guns were involved.
Police said two firearms and other evidence were seized at a private residence early Sunday.
Walter Alexander, 46, of Arizona, was arrested Saturday night on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon.

The Hawks Win Again!!!

The Kansas Jayhawks scored plenty of points again! The beat Toledo 45-13 on Saturday night. KU is now 3-0 and getting ready for Florida International on September 22nd and start Big 12 Conference play at K-State on October 6th. I would love to see KU play this year, but all of my KU connections have left the college. So, I will have to settle for the K-State game in Manhattan against Colorado on 10/13. Go Buffs!

Broncos versus Raiders

The Broncos are home for week two of the NFL season. They host the hated Raiders. I spoke with Uncle Smitty last night and wished him Happy Birthday. He said that one of his B-Day wishes is a Broncos win at Invesco Field today.
I am stuck having to find a Sports Grille to watch it at today. The Chiefs and Bears game is on at the same time, same channel. I do not want to watch the Chiefs and miss the Broncos game. Go Broncos!!!

The Boys Are Back!!!

Anyone that knows me, knows that my favorite band is Live. I have seen them a million times and know them on a first-name basis. They signed and gave me a guitar on my 10th Anniversary at KKRD in 2000. Ed, the lead signer remembered Madison's name after she was born and asked me how she was doing a few months after that. They are incredible in concert. Well, they have a new CD out. It features a bunch of "live" tracks from Live and a couple new songs. They rock!

Kicking It at the Kansas State Fair

All of our kids were at their other parents house this weekend, and Kris and I had nothing to do the whole time. We decided to go to Hutchinson to the State Fair. I had a ton of free things for it from work. So, we ended up spending about 10 hours there doing lots of eating, walking, eating, people watching, eating, riding rides and eating. Yes! Lots of eating! My favorite was the Cheese Curds that we had at the end of the night. They were delicious!
It was a wonderful time. Kristi and I had so much fun. We both needed the alone time with just us two. It was great! Here's a picture from the top of the Ferris Wheel. She wanted me to go on the Tilt-O-Whirl and I declined. I told her that I didn't like that ride and I also told her my Aunt Peg's story from that ride. That's for another time. Another time for sure.

Headed to Nashville! Yee Haw!

I got word today that I will be representing KFDI at the 41st Annual CMA Awards in Nashville in November. I am going to be lining up on-air interviews with the stars of Country music. I am excited to go on the trip. It should be fun. There's another reason that I am excited. A reporter for ABC will be their covering the event. His name is Jeremy Hubbard. Have you ever heard of him? Yeah! The Hubbard boys in Music City at the same time. It will be fun. You can get more on the awards at http://www.cmaawards.com/2007/.

I spotted another "nice" sign in Wichita!

I was following a co-worker to his mechanic today. He had to get his car worked on, so I followed him and brought him back to work. I was on 53rd Street North in Park City (home of the BTK Killer) and saw this. I stopped the car and got out to take this picture from my camera phone. How is this? Months ago I spotted a detour sign that was spelled wrong. This one rates up there!
How do they spell Garage in your neck of the woods? Well, apparently I missed the memo that Kansans spell it different. Enjoy!

How Did They Do That??? Broncos are 1-0!

The Broncos game wasn't on in Wichita today, because the Chiefs game was on. So, I took the kids to Victory Sports Grill to take in the game. The Broncos didn't look that impressive until the end of the game. They seemed to make things happen when they needed to happen.
They scored a game-winning field goal with no time left on the clock to win 15-14 against the Buffalo Bills. That was the only time that the Broncos had the lead. It was amazing. I was watching trying to figure out what they were doing and had no idea that they were lining up for a field goal. I have no idea how they got it off in time. It was amazing. You have to see the highlights if you get the chance.

It's Time For Broncos Football, Baby!!!

Well, I have been waiting and waiting. It's finally here. It's a long time from late December to early September. It's an emotional time. It's the time without Broncos football. I have survived it once again.
The Denver Broncos kick off the regular season on Sunday in Buffalo, New York. The game is not on here. The stupid Chiefs are playing at Houston. Go Texans! That game is CBS. So, I am going to go to Victory Sports Grill to watch the game. A Broncos victory would be a nice early B-Day present! Go Broncos!

Happy Birthday Madison!

Madison is officially 8! We had a party for her on Saturday night at Bernie's Pizza in Wichita. It's near where we live and Maddie loves there salad bar. We had a great time. Kristi and the kids were there. Kory, Darla and their kids made it and Pete and Linda Tilley came with their grandson, Austin.
Madison got a lot of cool presents. She's growing up too fast! Love ya kid!

Zach joins in on party!

Here's another photo from the slumber party. Madison is teaching Zach some tricks with popcorn. No, that's not a growth on her nose. It's a popcorn. Well, I hope that it is anyway. OK, I am going to try and get them settled down for the evening now. Have a nice evening.

Madison after "Make-Up" Session

Here's Maddie after the girls had their make-up session on Friday night at Madison's slumber party. She's growing up way too fast! No make-up will be worn out in public for many, many years. I am positive of that.

Madison's Slumber Party at the Hubbard House

Madison's turning 8 years old on Sunday. It's her weekend with me. She wanted one of her B-day presents to be a slumber party with some friends. Well, I gave in. It's about 11:30 p.m. right now and everyone is wide awake. Here's Tiana, Hailey, Madison and Kaitlyn from earlier Friday evening. They decided to play "make-up" in the bathroom. I took this picture of them. They are having fun. Let's see how much fun they have cleaning up the mess. :)

Oops! You can't do that in High School!

Brainy Gabriella of "High School Musical" would no doubt blush at the idea that nude pictures of young actress Vanessa Hudgens were circulating on the Internet. The problem for the Walt Disney Co. is that Hudgens plays Gabriella. The 18-year-old star of Disney Channel's wildly successful "High School Musical" franchise apologized on Friday. The photos show a coquettishly smiling Hudgens posing naked in a bedroom with a red curtain behind her.
I have seen the photo. I am not going to put it on here. Above is a photo of Vanessa with her clothes on!

Broncos BEEF UP for upcoming season!

The Broncos on Monday agreed to terms on a one-year contract with three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Simeon Rice.
As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Rice, in his 12th NFL season, owns 121 career sacks that rank as the 13th-highest total in NFL history and represent the second-highest mark among active players. He joins the Broncos from Tampa Bay, where he spent the previous six seasons after playing his first five years with Arizona.

Labor Day Weekend at Pop's!

Kristi and I did the "trip on a tank" on Sunday. We drove from Wichita to Oklahoma. We took back roads to Arkansas City. We then shot through Ponca City and made a stop at Eskimo Joe's in Stillwater. We went from Stillwater to Arcadia to Pop's.
This place is on Route 66 just west of Arcadia, OK. It's about 6 miles east of I-35 on Highway 66. It's very cool. They have tons and tons of different bottled soft drinks, a soda fountain and diner. They also have a lot of cool Route 66 stuff. They even have working gas pumps and it's a convenience store.
I saw a something on CNN about this place a couple weeks back and wanted to check it out. It's pretty neat. I took this picture from across the street when we were leaving. I suggest that you check it out, but reserve your seats to eat in advance. It was packed. We didn't eat there.
You can get more on this place at http://www.pops66.com.

KU Kicks in Season Opener! Cool New Uniforms, Too!

KU 52, Central Michigan 7

The Hawks rocked Saturday night in Lawrence. They have changed their helmets and numbers, too. Looks pretty awesome! I am tired, so I am going to bed. Good Night.
