The Colorado Buffaloes just pulled a major upset! They just beat #3 Oklahoma 27-24! This is a HUGE win for the Buffs. I love it! Especially since they beat the Sooners!
I HAVE A BUSY LIFE AND CAN'T STAY IN TOUCH WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON A DAILY BASIS. YOU CAN CATCH UP RIGHT HERE!
Here's a picture that I found this morning. It's the Cubs celebrating their clinching of the National League Central Division on Friday night. I love this picture, because you don't see this happen often as a Cubbie's fan.
The longtime KAKE meteorologist passed away on Tuesday after a long bout with illness. Jim's funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Jim is survived by his wife, Marilan, a son and daughter and six grandchildren. Jim was 77.
You've heard that the Cubs haven't won it all since 1908. About how they finished last in 2006 and spent $300 million on free agents this offseason. Now hear this: The Cubs are NL Central champions.
It was a pretty busy weekend for me. As a lot of you know, one of my best friends from High School (Kent Hagelgantz) passed away. Kent had a very rare form of lymphoma. He was diagnosed in January and it took his life last week.
My brother, Jeremy is a hard guy to get a hold of. He's always on the go. I try to call him, but I hardly have any luck reaching him. That's what the old blogger.com is so good for. Well, I went to Jeremy's Blog http://www.bubsbasement.blogspot.com/ and he hasn't updated that in awhile. Bub! What's going on in your world? Congrats on your Chiefs winning their first game of the season. I hope it's their only win.
The Kansas Jayhawks football team continues to roll! They went to 4-0 over the weekend with a 55-3 win against Florida International. I was in the Lawrence-Topeka area over the weekend for Kent's funeral. I drove over to Lawrence early Saturday morning to walk on the KU campus and see some of the sights around town that I used to love when I lived up there. I went by the stadium and watched them prepare for tailgating and the game. I would love to see them play this year, but don't see if happening. I will probably be headed to Manhattan on 10/13, though. A guy that used to work for me gave me free tickets to the Colorado-KSU game. So, I hope to go to that.
The Broncos lost their first game of the 2007 season on Sunday. The Jaguars beat them 23-14. The Late Game Magic couldn't happen this week. They were dominated pretty much the whole game. They looked like crap. Jay Cutler had a decent game, but threw an interception at the end of the game. They now have to get ready for the Colts at Indy next weekend. So, it's safe to say that the Broncos will probably be 2-2 after that one. That will be a tough one!
The Kansas Jayhawks scored plenty of points again! The beat Toledo 45-13 on Saturday night. KU is now 3-0 and getting ready for Florida International on September 22nd and start Big 12 Conference play at K-State on October 6th. I would love to see KU play this year, but all of my KU connections have left the college. So, I will have to settle for the K-State game in Manhattan against Colorado on 10/13. Go Buffs!
The Broncos are home for week two of the NFL season. They host the hated Raiders. I spoke with Uncle Smitty last night and wished him Happy Birthday. He said that one of his B-Day wishes is a Broncos win at Invesco Field today.
Anyone that knows me, knows that my favorite band is Live. I have seen them a million times and know them on a first-name basis. They signed and gave me a guitar on my 10th Anniversary at KKRD in 2000. Ed, the lead signer remembered Madison's name after she was born and asked me how she was doing a few months after that. They are incredible in concert. Well, they have a new CD out. It features a bunch of "live" tracks from Live and a couple new songs. They rock!
All of our kids were at their other parents house this weekend, and Kris and I had nothing to do the whole time. We decided to go to Hutchinson to the State Fair. I had a ton of free things for it from work. So, we ended up spending about 10 hours there doing lots of eating, walking, eating, people watching, eating, riding rides and eating. Yes! Lots of eating! My favorite was the Cheese Curds that we had at the end of the night. They were delicious!
I got word today that I will be representing KFDI at the 41st Annual CMA Awards in Nashville in November. I am going to be lining up on-air interviews with the stars of Country music. I am excited to go on the trip. It should be fun. There's another reason that I am excited. A reporter for ABC will be their covering the event. His name is Jeremy Hubbard. Have you ever heard of him? Yeah! The Hubbard boys in Music City at the same time. It will be fun. You can get more on the awards at http://www.cmaawards.com/2007/.
I was following a co-worker to his mechanic today. He had to get his car worked on, so I followed him and brought him back to work. I was on 53rd Street North in Park City (home of the BTK Killer) and saw this. I stopped the car and got out to take this picture from my camera phone. How is this? Months ago I spotted a detour sign that was spelled wrong. This one rates up there!
The Broncos game wasn't on in Wichita today, because the Chiefs game was on. So, I took the kids to Victory Sports Grill to take in the game. The Broncos didn't look that impressive until the end of the game. They seemed to make things happen when they needed to happen.
Well, I have been waiting and waiting. It's finally here. It's a long time from late December to early September. It's an emotional time. It's the time without Broncos football. I have survived it once again.
Madison's turning 8 years old on Sunday. It's her weekend with me. She wanted one of her B-day presents to be a slumber party with some friends. Well, I gave in. It's about 11:30 p.m. right now and everyone is wide awake. Here's Tiana, Hailey, Madison and Kaitlyn from earlier Friday evening. They decided to play "make-up" in the bathroom. I took this picture of them. They are having fun. Let's see how much fun they have cleaning up the mess. :)
Brainy Gabriella of "High School Musical" would no doubt blush at the idea that nude pictures of young actress Vanessa Hudgens were circulating on the Internet. The problem for the Walt Disney Co. is that Hudgens plays Gabriella. The 18-year-old star of Disney Channel's wildly successful "High School Musical" franchise apologized on Friday. The photos show a coquettishly smiling Hudgens posing naked in a bedroom with a red curtain behind her.
The Broncos on Monday agreed to terms on a one-year contract with three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Simeon Rice.
